Introducing the AI Cost Estimator: Turn “Sticker Shock” into Booked Appointments
One of the hardest parts of being a service advisor is breaking the news to a customer who has no idea what a repair actually costs.
We are excited to announce the AI Cost Estimator—a powerful new tool available now in the Repair Shop Finder and Client Portal. This feature helps vehicle owners get a ballpark estimate for common repairs before they walk through your doors, leading to better-informed customers and smoother conversations.
How It Works: A “Virtual Service Advisor.”
The Cost Estimator serves as a preliminary triage step, guiding your clients through a simple four-step process to gather the right information.
- Vehicle Selection: Clients identify their vehicle instantly. In the Client Portal, they can select one of their saved vehicles with a single tap. For new vehicles, they can use the Year/Make/Model dropdowns, a VIN decoder, or even a barcode scanner for accuracy.
- Service Category: The client selects their area of concern from 14 common categories (e.g., Brakes, Engine, AC, Tires). This helps the AI immediately narrow the scope of the issue.
- AI Diagnostic Chat: This is where the magic happens. An AI assistant asks follow-up questions about symptoms—“Do you hear grinding when braking?” or “Does the issue happen at idle?” Much like your service advisor would on the phone, the AI adapts based on their answers to produce a structured diagnosis: Concern, Cause, and Correction.
- The Orientation Estimate: Finally, the tool generates an itemized estimate broken down into parts and labor. > Crucial Note: A clear disclaimer informs clients that this is an orientation estimate only. It emphasizes that final pricing depends on your specific shop rates and the vehicle’s actual condition.

Where Your Clients Can Use It
The Cost Estimator works for both acquiring new leads and retaining current ones:
- The “Repair Shops” Page: Clients browsing for a mechanic can use the tool to understand costs. Once they have an estimate, they can search for a nearby shop and book directly.
- The Client Portal: Existing clients will see a new Cost Estimator menu item (marked with an “AI” badge). Because they are already linked to you, the final step skips the search and takes them directly to your booking page.
Why This Wins You More Business
You might be wondering: Does this mean the AI is quoting my jobs? No. It means the AI is preparing your customer for the reality of the repair.
- Better Prepared Bookings: When a client books an appointment via the Estimator, the booking arrives in your system with the diagnostic details attached. Your team will see the AI-generated concern, probable cause, and suggested correction before the car even pulls in.
- Reduced Sticker Shock: The tool acts as a filter. It brings in clients who already understand the general financial scope of their repair, meaning less time spent explaining why a transmission job costs more than an oil change.
- A Professional First Impression: Offering advanced AI diagnostics sets your shop apart. It signals that you value transparency and technology, building trust before you’ve even shaken hands.

Getting Started
No Setup Required. The Cost Estimator is now automatically available to all your clients in the portal.
