From Service History to the Next Appointment: Meet AI Predictive Care
Your customers do not stop caring about their vehicles when they leave your shop. They simply stop having the same information you have.
Between visits, a vehicle owner may remember that something should be checked “soon,” wonder whether the mileage is getting close to another service, or forget which maintenance item was discussed months ago. Most will wait until a dashboard light appears, a problem becomes noticeable, or the next inspection brings the subject up again.
That gap is now an opportunity for your shop.
The ARI Client Portal’s new AI Predictive Care experience turns the information already available in a customer’s Vehicle Care Passport into a practical look at what may deserve attention next. It gives vehicle owners useful, clearly explained guidance between visits—and gives them a direct path from curiosity to a cost estimate or appointment with your shop.
A smarter reason for customers to return to your portal
Invoices, estimates, inspections, and appointments are essential, but customers usually open them in response to something that has already happened. Predictive Care gives the portal a forward-looking purpose.
When a customer chooses Predict next services, ARI reviews the available picture of that specific vehicle and suggests three or four services that may be worth discussing at an upcoming visit. The forecast can consider:
- The vehicle’s year, make, model, and other available details
- Shop-recorded mileage and how recently the vehicle record was updated
- Completed service records and the work documented in them
- Existing maintenance reminders and postponed work
- The time and distance since relevant services were last recorded
- Grounded public maintenance information for general context
Instead of showing a generic maintenance checklist, ARI uses these signals together to create a more relevant next-care outlook. The result is not positioned as a diagnosis or an official manufacturer schedule. Every forecast is clearly labelled as an AI-generated estimate, and customers are reminded that your shop or their owner’s manual should confirm the work.
That distinction matters. The goal is not to replace professional judgment. It is to help customers arrive at your shop with better questions, a clearer sense of what may be coming, and an easier way to take action.
From a prediction to a booking in a few taps
Useful information only creates value when the customer can act on it. That is why Predictive Care is connected directly to the tools already available in the ARI Client Portal.
Each forecast presents the predicted service in a simple card. Depending on the data available, the customer may see:
- A broad timeframe, such as the next shop visit or within the coming months
- A short explanation of why the service may be worth planning for
- An approximate mileage countdown when the recorded mileage is fresh enough to support it
- A straightforward confidence label
The customer can then choose what to do next.
They can select one or more predicted services and tap Book selected services. ARI carries those selections into the booking experience as editable Custom Service text, with the correct vehicle kept in context. The customer can adjust the note before submitting the appointment, and your shop receives a clear list of the items they want to discuss.
If the customer wants more context before booking, they can choose Estimate cost on an individual prediction. That service is passed into the existing Cost Estimator, along with the vehicle information already available, so the customer does not have to start over or retype the service.
This creates a natural progression:
Understand what may be next → explore a possible cost → schedule a conversation with the shop.
Every step reduces friction between an owner’s maintenance question and a real service opportunity.
Why this matters for your shop
1. It creates service conversations before a problem becomes urgent
Many customers are reactive about maintenance. They book when something fails, a warning appears, or a deadline becomes impossible to ignore. Predictive Care gives them a reason to think ahead.
A customer who sees that a brake fluid service, tire rotation, or air filter may be worth discussing can bring it up during the next visit—or book specifically to have it checked. That does not guarantee that the predicted work will be needed, but it creates an earlier, better-informed conversation for your service team.
2. It turns your existing records into ongoing customer value
Your shop is already doing the hard work: recording mileage, documenting completed services, creating reminders, and saving postponed recommendations. Predictive Care makes that history more valuable after the customer leaves.
The more complete and current the vehicle record is, the more useful the outlook can become. Good documentation no longer serves only the current repair order; it helps power the customer’s future care experience as well.
3. It helps recover work that might otherwise be forgotten
Customers often intend to revisit a maintenance item and then lose track of it. The Vehicle Care Passport already keeps reminders and postponed work visible. Predictive Care complements those shop-recorded items by looking farther ahead.
ARI also avoids presenting an existing reminder or postponed item as a new AI discovery. Items your shop is already tracking are excluded from the predictions and called out separately. That keeps the experience clear and prevents customers from seeing the same recommendation repeated in multiple places.
4. It makes booking easier and more specific
“I think my car needs some maintenance” is a difficult starting point for both the customer and the service advisor. A booking note that says the customer wants to discuss tire rotation and brake fluid service is much more useful.
Because selected predictions flow into Custom Services as plain, editable text, customers can express their intent without being forced to choose an exact catalog item or claim that the work has already been diagnosed. Your team gets useful context while remaining in control of inspection, confirmation, and pricing.
5. It strengthens your role as the trusted advisor
AI can easily feel like a black box if it presents confident answers without context. Predictive Care takes a more transparent approach.
Customers can see why an item was suggested, whether the confidence is medium or low, and when old mileage may reduce precision. The public sources used for general maintenance context remain available in a collapsed section for anyone who wants to inspect them, without overwhelming the normal experience.
Most importantly, the feature repeatedly directs customers back to the shop for confirmation. ARI helps start the conversation; your expertise finishes it.
A practical example
Imagine a customer opens the Care Passport for a vehicle your shop last serviced several months ago. The portal has the vehicle details, the mileage recorded during that visit, completed service lines, and a postponed recommendation already being tracked by your shop.
The customer asks ARI to predict what may need attention next. The forecast suggests a tire rotation, brake fluid service, and engine air filter, while excluding the postponed item that is already visible elsewhere in the Care Passport.
The customer selects the tire rotation and brake fluid service. With one tap, both are added to the booking page as services to discuss. If they are not ready to schedule, they can first send one of the services to the Cost Estimator.
By the time that customer contacts your shop, they are no longer starting with a vague maintenance question. They have a specific, transparent prompt for a professional review—and your shop is the obvious place to complete it.
Designed for responsible, practical AI
Predictive Care is intentionally conservative. It is designed to support maintenance planning, not to overstate what AI knows.
- Forecasts are created only when the customer asks for one; simply opening the page does not trigger a new AI request.
- Predictions are clearly identified as AI-generated estimates, not official OEM schedules.
- The feature does not diagnose the vehicle or authorize work.
- Confidence is presented plainly rather than hidden behind a definitive recommendation.
- If recorded mileage may be stale, mileage-based countdowns are hidden, and forecast confidence is reduced.
- Existing reminders and postponed work are excluded from the AI suggestions to avoid duplication.
- Public maintenance sources are available for transparency, while the main page stays focused and easy to scan.
- Customers are told to confirm all work with their shop or owner’s manual.
This approach gives owners the usefulness they want without weakening the role of the technician, service advisor, or manufacturer guidance.
How to introduce Predictive Care to your customers
You do not need a complicated campaign. A short prompt at the right moment can be enough:
“Your Vehicle Care Passport now includes an AI-generated look at what may need attention next. Sign in to the ARI Client Portal, open your vehicle, and choose Predict next services. You can estimate a service or send selected items straight into an appointment request with us.”
Consider mentioning the feature:
- In a post-service follow-up message
- When inviting a customer to activate or revisit the Client Portal
- After updating a vehicle’s mileage or service history
- When a customer postpones work and wants a better way to keep future care organized
- In your newsletter, social channels, or website’s customer-benefits section
The message should stay simple: this is a convenient planning tool, the forecast is AI-generated, and your shop will confirm what the vehicle actually needs.
More than a record of the past
The ARI Vehicle Care Passport already brings a customer’s maintenance story into one place: completed visits, reminders, postponed recommendations, appointments, inspections, and recall awareness. Predictive Care adds the next chapter.
For vehicle owners, it means less guesswork and a clearer way to prepare for future maintenance. For your shop, it creates more opportunities to stay connected between visits, bring deferred or upcoming care back into the conversation, and convert useful guidance into well-informed appointment requests.
That is the real promise of AI in the client experience—not replacing the relationship between a shop and its customers, but making that relationship more timely, useful, and easier to act on.
Invite your customers to open their Vehicle Care Passport and see what may deserve attention next.
